Additionally there annual Black-White game has been played. The odessapermian.com report follows.
May 17th, 2008- MOJO fans got a taste of things to come as the Permian Panthers wrapped up spring drills with the annual Black-White Game at Ratliff Stadium. Thanks to a strong effort by the first team defense, the varsity Black squad defeated the White 20-12. Led by returning starters Samson McClane, Anthony McDowell, and Jerome Leija, the Black defense held Team White scoreless in the first half. Meanwhile, Black quarterback Steven Pipes was taking control, leading the team on a pair of scoring drives to stake a 14-0 halftime lead. In the second half the White squad got untracked, as QB Trevor Adams hooked up with Ryan Rumbaugh on a long pass. Alan Castillejos took it in from there, lining up at quarterback and calling his own number. Castillejos continued to make big plays by executing the onside kick to perfection and getting the recovery. The do-it-all senior kept the drive going with a spectacular diving catch that got the White down to the Black six yard line. From their Adams connected with Sherard Ray for a touchdown, cutting the Black lead to two points. That was as close as the score would get, as Pipes capped a long drive with a five yard touchdown run. Pipes finished the day with 107 yards passing and 95 yards on the ground. Nick Samaniego scored two TDs. On defense Linvel Mosby grabbed an interception, with William Ritter and Joey Mendez recovering fumbles. For the White squad, Trevor Adams ended the evening with 160 yards through the air. Brian Nunez rushed for 44 yards. Earlier in the day, the White squad defeated the Black 24-18 in the JV Black game. On Thursday, Black defeated White 28-24 in the JV White game. The 2008 football season gets underway Thursday, August 28th vs the Duncanville Panthers in the Go Friday Night Kickoff Classic in Abilene
